For Volker Wieland there is no scope left for interest rates ("Handelsblatt")

In an interview with the German business paper "Handelsblatt" Professor Volker Wieland talks about the limits of monetary policy and the impact of the bond purchase program of the European Central Bank (ECB).

There is no scope left for medium- and long-term interest rates, Professor Volker Wieland said in an interview with "Handelsblatt". Interest rates could not drop further. According to Wieland, the ECB bond buying program is unnecessary. To him, the question is whether the associated risks are justified. Before deciding about new measures the ECB should rather have waited for the impact of the existing measures, Wieland said.
