While gaining his Ph.D. at Stanford University, Volker Wieland analyzed the monetary policy of various countries in a project of John B. Taylor. The result was the famous Taylor Rule, which "Finanz und Wirtschaft" describes as the most important formula to evaluate the monetary policy of central banks.

However, Volker Wieland is not chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts, as mentioned in the article, but member.
