Volker Wieland comments the Fed's interest rate decision (Reuters)

The U.S. central bank Federal Reserve is continuing its zero-rate policy. Fed Chair Janet Yellen justified the decision with the recent financial market turbulences and the sluggish growth in the emerging markets. According to Prof. Volker Wieland the Fed is waiting too long with the interest rate turnaround.

It would have been time for the Fed to moderately start raising interest rates, Wieland said to Reuters. A key interest rate of 3.5 percent would be rather appropriate than the zero-rate policy. According to Wieland, the Fed is running the risk of leaving the interest rate too low for too long as did the former Fed Chairmen Greenspan and Ben Bernanke.
