This paper aims at examining the U.S. regulatory framework governing financial holding companies that are permitted to operate across financial sectors by combining diverse business lines under a single corporate umbrella. To this end, it first and foremost looks into the regulatory changes that the GLB Act has instituted. Further, it takes account of the impact of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (“Dodd-Frank Act”), which was enacted in July 2010 in the aftermath of the recent financial crisis.
