18. Mai 2015: IMFS Working Lunch mit Prof. Michael Haliassos zu Griechenland

In der Reihe IMFS Working Lunch hält Michael Haliassos, Professor für Makroökonomie und Finanzen an der Goethe-Universität und Direktor des Center for Financial Studies (CFS), am 18.05.2015 einen Vortrag über "The Greek Crisis: Where to Next?".

Michael Haliassos ist unter anderem als wissenschaftlicher Berater der Europäischen Zentralbank beim Aufbau des „European Survey on Household Finances and Consumption“, einem euroweiten Haushaltsdatensatz, aktiv. Gemeinsam mit Yannis Ioannides (Tufts University) und Dimitri Vayanos (LSE) betreibt er den Policy Blog Greek Economists for Reform.

"The Greek Crisis: Where to Next?"

Michael Haliassos will discuss briefly the political origins of debt buildup in Greece, present his views on the precise sense in which the adjustment program failed, and argue that, given this failure, the current political and economic crisis were to be expected. Regarding the current deadlock, in his opinion there is one class of simple reforms that are key for ensuring the viability of the country in the eurozone. Haliossos will then explain why the current government is unlikely to deliver these reforms although the people would welcome them and why the previous governments did not promote them and the troika paradoxically discouraged them.
