Kronberger Kreis: Europe must not seal itself off ("Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung")

According to the Kronberger Kreis, laying the foundations for competitiveness and innovation is the best way for the European Union to face Chinese and American competition. In an opinion piece in the weekly newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung", Lars Feld, Clemens Fuest, Justus Haucap, Heike Schweitzer, Berthold Wigger and Volker Wieland call for open prodct markets and free market entry.

Countries that seal themselves off weaken their own economy too much for them to be cosy, the economists argue. Without foreign competition European companies would lose their competitiveness. EU citizens rather benefit from being part of a competitive space that can defend their interests against others.
