Volker Wieland: ECB has missed opportunity for turnaround ("Neue Zürcher Zeitung")

According to Volker Wieland, the European Central Bank (ECB) has missed the opportunity for a turnaround in monetary policy. At its April meeting, the ECB Governing Council decided to keep the key ECB interest rates unchanged.

In Wieland's opinion, the ECB should have stopped buying bonds and raised interest rates earlier. Instead, it missed this window of opportunity. In the press conference after the Council meeting, ECB President Mario Draghi confirmed that the financial markets had reacted adequately to his remarks at the conference "The ECB and Its Watchers" in March.
