Volker Wieland: "Fed policy per Trump's interest rate decree will not be enforced" (Handelsblatt)

Donald Trump has raised eyebrows with his latest comments on the US Federal Reserve and questioned the central bank's independence. This could also have an impact on the German export industry, which is extremely dependent on exports by international standards.

"Should Trump and Vance implement their monetary policy vision, exporters would be directly affected: The weaker the dollar is, the more expensive German products will be in the US," summarizes the "Handelsblatt". With reference to the majority situation in the United States, however, it is unlikely that this could succeed according to Wieland: "Fed policy by Trump's interest rate decree will not be enforced." Even if the Republicans achieved a majority in both houses of Congress, Trump-Vance would struggle to find a majority to legally curtail the Fed's independence.
