For Volker Wieland ECB bond purchases are not absolutely necessary (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, CNBC)

Ahead of the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court on the bond purchase program (PSPP) of the European Central Bank (ECB) Prof. Volker Wieland said that the purchases were not absolutely necessary. In an interview with "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" he emphasized the significance of the proportionality.

In summer 2019, Wieland testified as an expert witness on the PSPP case at the public hearing of the Federal Constitutional Court. He argued that PSPP is monetary policy.

In an interview with CNBC, Wieland pointed out that the impending verdict could have consequences for the Bundesbank.
