Helmut Siekmann on the ECB's health check on the region's banks ("FAZ")

Before taking up its oversight task about the 128 biggest banks in the euro-area, the European Central Bank (ECB) is conducting an unprecented health check on the region's lenders with the help of national supervisors and external auditors.

The "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" describes the problems of the ECB's Comprehensive Assessment, where the Asset Quality Review and a stress test are the final stages. Prof. Helmut Siekmann points out the ECB's difficulties in detecting flaws in balance sheets without the necessary and experienced staff.
