IMFS Annual Report 2017 published

Quantitative macroeconomic models play an important role in informing policy-makers about the consequences of monetary, fiscal and macroprudential policies. The newly published annual report 2017 shows current projects, such as the Macroeconomic Modelling and Comparison Initiative (MMCI).

In this joint research initiative with Hoover Institution at Stanford University, the IMFS analyzed the effects of quantitative monetary policy in structural models at the first research conference. Moreover, Volker Wieland and his team have expanded the computational platform Macro Economic Model Database (MMB). The data base already features about 70 macroeconomic models enabling researchers to reproduce and replicate models. More than 7,500 researchers worldwide have registered for the platform.

Apart from the Macroeconomic Modelling and Comparison Initiative (MMCI) the annual report also provides an overview about publications, staff and objectives of the IMFS, which provides new insights on questions regarding price and financial stability from an interdisciplinary point of view.

Besides expanding the computational platform available at www.macromodelbase.com, the IMFS also established a new network on macroeconomic models: the Macroeconomic Modelling and Model Comparison Network (MMCN). Important projects also encompass the publication of a study regarding the quantitative easing of the European Central Bank (ECB) and several publications on the neutral interest rate, R-Star.

Moreoever, the annual report presents the lectures and events of the institute when IMFS researchers and guests regularly discuss current issues regarding the ECB, banking regulation or the future of the European Union. Highlight of the events is the annual conference "The ECB and Its Watchers" for central bankers, ECB watchers and market participants.

IMFS graduates are also presented in the annual report. Two former IMFS researchers describe how they build on their research when starting their careers with the ECB and an international law firm.

The IMFS Annual Report 2017 is published in English and available for download (PDF, 8,64 MB). The interview with former IMFS researchers are available in the section “Testimonials of graduates” on our website.
