IMFS appoints Willy Friedmann and Hermann Remsperger as Distinguished Fellows

The Executive Board of the IMFS has appointed Dr. Willy Friedmann and Prof. Dr. Hermann Remsperger, honoring their contributions to the institute.

“Since the establishment of the institute Dr. Friedmann and Prof. Remsperger have been contributing significantly to the buildup and the strategy of our institute. During numerous conferences and events they provided valuable input”, Prof. Volker Wieland, Managing Director, said. “We would like to express our gratitude to them.”

Dr. Willy Friedmann served in different capacities in the departments of monetary policy, financial markets and trade at Deutsche Bundesbank from 1978 to 2009, and most recently as head of the department of economics. Since 2009 he had been Chairman of the Foundation for Monetary and Financial Stability (Stiftung Währung und Geld) and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the IMFS. On June 30, 2015 he resigned from his offices.

Prof. Dr. Hermann Remsperger was Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank from 1998 to 2009 where he was in charge of the department for economics and statistics as well as the research center. He represented the Deutsche Bundesbank in the economics and finance committee of the EU, at the G7 and G20 meetings as well as the Financial Stability Forum. As Chairman of the Council of the Foundation for Monetary and Financial Stability (Stiftung Währung und Geld), Hermann Remsperger also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the IMFS since its establishment. He retired from these roles on June 30, 2015.

Distinguished Fellows are exceptional individuals with great experience in policy making institutions and the financial sector who have already made outstanding contributions to the IMFS and its activities in research and policy advice or who aim to get actively involved in the future and further collaboration with key institutions.
