IMFS Policy Lecture with Prof. Volker Wieland on climate policy on September 18

On September 20, the German government will decide on how Germany should reach its climate goals. At an IMFS Policy Lecture two days earlier, Prof. Volker Wieland will present the suggestions of the German Council of Economic Experts on the options for setting a price on greenhouse gas emissions.

In a special report, the Council analyzed for the government incentives in order to promote less emissions and options for setting a price for CO2 emissions. A new climate strategy should help Germany to reach its climate goal in 2030, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55 per cent in comparison to 1990.

Based on the Council's special report, Wieland will outline the current situation and present different options for carbon pricing, which should also ensure competitiveness and social balance.
