In an interview with “Euro am Sonntag” Volker Wieland talked about negative interest rates as in Denmark and the lessons for the European Central Bank.

€uro: What lessons can the ECB learn from the experiences in Denmark?

Volker Wieland: Denmark has proved that negative interest rates are not the end of the world. You could also apply this instrument in the eurozone if it was necessary.

€uro: Is it necessary?

Volker Wieland: No, now it’s the wrong moment for negative interest rates.
