Volker Wieland asks ECB to alter its course (Reuters)

Given the increase in inflation at the beginning of 2017, Prof. Volker Wieland has urged the European Central Bank (ECB) to alter its course in monetary policy. "The ECB urgently needs to change course," Wieland said in an interview with the news agency Reuters.

In January, the inflation rate climbed by 1.9% in Germany. This development ignited a new debate about the adequate monetary policy in the euro area. "It is a matter of preparing the exit from the ultra-expansionary monetary policy," Wieland added.
