Volker Wieland on the future of the eurozone after the German elections ("Bloomberg TV")

After the federal elections Volker Wieland expects tough coalition negotiations that will eventually succeed. Regarding the future of the eurozone, however, all members have an obligation, Wieland said in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

"The coalition talks will take a while but there is a potential for a pretty good solution", Wieland said. In his opinion, the future development of the eurozone does not depend on the results of the German elections. "The member countries have to ensure a sustainable fiscal policy and growth". "A fiscal transfer budget does not enhance stability of the eurozone".

Regarding the pressure on Germany to spend more and save less, Wieland remains calm. "Analysis of spillovers to other countries shows that the effects are very small", he said.
