Volker Wieland: Permanent public financing is not part of the ECB's role (Börsen-Zeitung)

According to Prof. Volker Wieland, it is not necessary for the European Central Bank (ECB) to increase bond purchases right now. The current volume of the PEPP program is not exhausted, he said in an interview with the German financial daily "Börsen-Zeitung". Besides, the situation seemed to stabilize. Regarding the judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court, he pointed out several options for the ECB.

Wieland argued that the ECB could take its time to analyze the effect of the bond purchases, which were already decided upon in the PEPP program, and to come up with an exit strategy for reducing the bond portfolio when the crisis is over.
