Volker Wieland sees significant weaknesses in climate protection ("Börsen-Zeitung")

According to Prof. Volker Wieland, the climate legislation shows significant weaknesses. the legislation would not able to achieve the key issue, he said in an interview with the German financial daily "Börsen-Zeitung". He warned against specific goals for each economic sector.

If those goals were supposed to be checked constantly, the CO2 price could not really have an effect. Moreover, in Wieland's opinion, in the current economic situationtax cuts are more appropriate than a stimulus package. He warned Germany was lagging behind in the global tax competition. This was harmful to competitiveness.

According to Wieland, a tax on shares or financial transactions is not appropriate. This would send the wrong signal regarding the old-age provision.
