Volker Wieland has warned of the negative consequences of the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy for the crisis countries in the euro area. "Monetary policy cannot solve structural problems in crisis countries", he said in an interview in the news program "heute".

According to Wieland, the low interest rates have negative impact on those countries. "There is the danger of the crisis countries not tackling the reforms that are necessary because of the time ECB President Draghi has given them again and again", Wieland added.
