For Helmut Siekmann the reason for turning away from cash paments lies in monetary policy ("Plusminus")

More and more banks are closing down bank branches in the country or introducing fees for withdrawing money. In an interview with the ARD program "Plusminus" Helmut Siekmann criticizes the banks' initiative.

"Cash that is banknotes and coins are an unlimited legal tender", Siekmann said. By introducing limits this would no longer be guaranteed.

According to Siekmann, the reason for turning away from cash payments lies in the monetary policy of the European Central Bank. "This is supposed to support the monetary policy of the European System of Central Banks".
