Volker Wieland expects prices to remain higher in the future (Spiegel, T-online, FAZ)

Prof. Volker Wieland expects inflation to remain high. "There is definitely a risk that inflation in Germany will exceed the ECB's target of two percent in the coming years as well," he said in an interview with "Der Spiegel".

Interest rates and wages are expected to rise, "because investors and employees are demanding compensation for higher inflation," he said. Wieland expects the European Central Bank to step in soon because of rising prices. "The first thing the ECB will have to do next year is to curb bond purchases. A rate hike could come in 2023," he said. It could be that the ECB abolishes minus interest rates sooner than expected, he added.
