Volker Wieland warns against consequences of ECB monetary policy ("ARD-Tagesthemen", "Neue Zürcher Zeitung")

In an interview with the German TV news program "Tagesthemen" Prof. Volker Wieland has warned against the consequences of the European Central Bank's (ECB) monetary policy. "The more the ECB pursues a monetary policy of zero or negative interest rates, the more it is pushing investors into riskier assets". This could lead to excesses on the real estate market in certain regions.

In an two-day hearing, the Federal Constitutional Court is analyzing constitutional complaints regarding the ECB bond purchase program. The judges in Karlsruhe had involved the European Court of Justice (ECJ) that declared the bond purchases to be lawful in December 2018. Now the Federal Constitutional Court has to decide.
